Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
